The IMECH GmbH Institute for Mechatronics is Germany's first and foremost facility for the development of miniaturized solutions that incorporate the interdisciplinary use of mechanical, optical and electronic technologies.

The Institute for Mechatronics is a unique center for key industries of the future. It was founded by a group of Duisburg university professors and is an integral part of NRW's broad-based Microtechnology Network that includes manufacturers and scientists in the fields of microelectronics, microstructure technology. microsystems, hybrid technologies, optics, fuzzy and plasma technologies, micro-medical technology, image recognition, electro-magnetic compatibility and sensor technology.

Currently, in the areas of computer simulation, artificial intelligence and especially microelectronics and micromechanics, major technological developments have occurred that will be revolutionizing nearly all manufacturing processes in the direction of total automation.

The Institute for Mechatronics is leading the way with special emphasis on robotics, automation, simulation, software-, sensor- and machine technology in an effort to open up new opportunities in the marketplace, in particular for small and medium-sized businesses. The interdisciplinary cooperation with industry and with numerous universities and institutes is setting the pace for industrial breakthroughs, such as the active-response chassis, selfadjusting tool or flexible actuator gripping system.
